In a recent lecture titled 'Where Do We Go From Here?' hosted by The Journal's Stubblefield Institute, Scott Widmeyer, a political strategist and co-chair of the Institute, addressed the declining civility in politics during the 2024 election. He criticized both major candidates, grading Donald Trump with an F for his uncivil rhetoric and Joe Biden's Vice President Kamala Harris campaign with a C for similar reasons. Widmeyer emphasized the importance of civil discourse, the role of local media in political engagement, and the need for diverse political views, particularly in West Virginia. He urged the audience to get involved in the democratic process and work towards fostering respect and unity in politics.
