Latest Report from US Drought Monitor Shows Drought Persists in the Eastern Panhandle

The Panhandle News Network reports that the U.S. Drought Monitor reveals worsening drought conditions in Martinsburg and Charles Town, now classified as 'Severe Drought' (D2) after previously being at 'Moderate Drought' (D1) for the past four weeks since October 22, 2024. Additionally, 89% of Morgan County remains moderate drought (D1), while a small area is experiencing severe conditions (D2). The October 2024 weather was noted as the driest on record over the last 130 years, with precipitation nearly two inches below normal, indicating that drought conditions are expected to continue into November according to the Climate Prediction Center's Drought Outlook.
