The Spirit of Jefferson reports on the upcoming opening of an extension of the Reconstruction exhibit at the Jefferson County Museum on Nov. 23. The event will feature a talk by local author and historian Lynn Pechuekonis, focusing on her research about the post-Civil War era and the Thomas Lovett family, African-American founders of the Hill Top House Hotel in Harpers Ferry. The new exhibit will display a recently acquired artifact, a church pew from First Zion Baptist Church, highlighting the contributions of black citizens in Jefferson County after the Civil War.
