Published by The Journal, the City of Martinsburg has announced that from November 28 until January 2, on-street parking will be free in select downtown areas, including Queen Street and King Street, to encourage holiday shopping. This pilot program aims to assess its impact on local businesses and determine if it effectively attracts customers. Mayor Kevin Knowles noted that the initiative responds to requests from downtown merchants and seeks to balance the various opinions surrounding parking solutions. Other nearby towns, such as Berkeley Springs, are also implementing festive parking initiatives, highlighting community efforts to enhance the holiday shopping experience.
