In a report by The Journal, Jefferson County Schools recently hosted its annual Sensory Trunk-or-Treat event at Charles Town Middle School, designed to provide students with sensory needs a safe Halloween experience free from typical stressors. This event, which has become a cherished tradition in just three years, allows participants to enjoy festivities in a secure environment, with trained staff and specially selected decorations. Parent and Educator Resource Coordinator Haley Kern emphasized the event's role in facilitating meaningful interactions and promoting empathy among students. Families, such as that of attendee Nancy Russell, have seen notable growth in their children's social engagement through this unique Halloween opportunity.
