The Jefferson County Commission, as reported by The Journal, plans to purchase the old American Public University System (APUS) building in Charles Town for $16.6 million to transform it into a new county government center. This acquisition will initiate a 120-day due diligence period to evaluate the property before final approval. The new location aims to streamline operations by consolidating county services, enhancing safety and accessibility for the public while also reducing annual operating costs by $145,000. The commission emphasized the need for a more efficient space as they prepare to relocate several offices, helping to address space and parking challenges for the community.
