Eastern Panhandle’s 23rd Judicial Circuit releases 3rd quarter data

The Journal reports that the Eastern Panhandle’s 23rd Judicial Circuit Court has had an active fall, presiding over 1,643 hearings, with notable numbers in Berkeley, Jefferson, and Morgan Counties. In Berkeley County, judges oversaw 1,052 hearings, with significant values in civil, criminal, and juvenile cases. Jefferson County recorded 408 hearings, with Judge David Hammer handling the grand jury and returning 40 indictments. Morgan County had 194 hearings, with Judge Debra McLaughlin presiding over another grand jury resulting in 16 indictments. Additionally, the court sentenced 90 defendants across the counties and welcomed new magistrates David DeHaven and Lisa Fraley, who have begun working alongside their peers on over 6,000 cases filed in local magistrate courts.
