In an article published by The Journal, it was reported that despite an increase of over 10,000 residents in Berkeley County since 2020, voter turnout has declined compared to the last presidential election. This year, only 50,452 ballots were cast, representing a 52.87% turnout, a decrease from 2020’s 62.12% turnout. The state has seen a general decline in voter engagement, with Berkeley County's turnout notably lower than neighboring counties Morgan and Jefferson. Additionally, turnout in the midterm elections was significantly lower than the state average. The report highlights that this election cycle marks the first time voter numbers have not risen since 2008, despite Berkeley County's population growth.
